Here are some answers to questions asked throughout the year:

Why does the Fifth Grade have its own fundraising?

The 5th Grade has special, 5th grade-only activities which traditionally include:

- a Yearbook

- A DVD to be shown the last day of school

- a class trip (one-day during school hours - not Thompson Island/Hale Reservation. Those are separate and are paid for separately by parents - it is not part of the 5th grade activities)

- class t-shirts

- a community service project

The above activities are funded by student fundraising initiatives supported and guided by parents. The traditional fundraising events are:

- selling water and ice cream at the back to school picnic

- babysitting during teacher conferences in the fall and spring

- selling glow-in-the-dark trinkets at the school dance

- hosting a crazy cake sale at Pizza Bingo or the Schofield Dance

- bottle and can recycling

Some years there is a class gift, or a class often decides to donate any leftover money to the school.

What is Pizza Bingo?
Is this a town-wide thing like the Bee?
No, this is not a town-wide activity (although anyone can attend). This is a Schofield community activity.

Who receives the proceeds from Pizza Bingo?
Pizza Bingo is a Schofield fundraiser. The 5th graders also fundraise by having a crazy cake silent auction and selling ice cream to raise funds for their end-of-year activities.

Why is Pizza Bingo held at the Middle or High School instead of Schofield?
There is better parking availability and more seating available at the Middle/High School.

Who can attend Pizza Bingo? Can we bring pre-schoolers?
Anyone is welcome to attend Pizza Bingo. It's a fun family night for everyone.

Do you play bingo with the pizza? Use pepperoni for the markers?
No, the pizza is for eating. We use standard bingo cards and pennies to cover the bingo cards. BRING YOUR OWN PENNIES.

How many games of bingo will we play?
As many as you would like!!

Are there prizes for winning? Or is it like gym class, "If you had fun, you WON!"?
Yes there are prizes. You can choose from some fantastic novelty prizes.

Is there anything else to do at Pizza Bingo?
Excellent question! Yes, besides eating yummy pizza and salad and playing bingo, you can bid on some fantastic homemade crazy cakes that are being auctioned by 5th Graders to raise funds for their end-of-year-trip, yearbook and DVD. The 5th Graders are also selling ice cream!!

Yummy. I love Bingo. The kids love pizza. I'm a terrible baker. We have nothing to do Friday night. Sign me up! What do I need to do? Can I pay at the door?
Sorry, you must pay in advance. Feel free to send your Pizza Bingo slip and $$ with your child in an envelope marked Pizza Bingo. OR drop your envelope off at the main office. The cost is $6 per person with a $30 maximum charge. We need a head count for the pizza and salads so we must adhere to this policy!

What is the Closing Assembly?
This assembly is open to the entire Schofield community. However, a primary focus of the assembly is on 5th grade students. There is a 5th grade video. The 5th graders also sing a song as they depart the gym. A second focus is that The PTO also thanks staff members who are leaving Schofield.
While the assembly is considered open to the Schofield community, space in the gym is an issue. In the past this has seemed to work out.

What is Field Day?

On Field Day, held in June, mixed teams of students from K-5 participate in relay races (egg on a spoon, sack race, beanbag on head, etc.).  This is followed by grade level races: K girls / K boys/ 1st girls / 1st boys, etc., through 5th.  It is held outside on the field. Parents like to come and watch if they can. It's a low key, fun end-of-the-year event.

Who is Schofield named after?
Schofield School is named after Otho L. Schofield, a Wellesley physician who practiced in the town for 47 years.
