School Fundraising
Book Fair
In the fall, plans and coordinates the Book Fair with a book fair company.
Publicizes the event, coordinates with the Principal and librarian a time for
each classroom to attend the fair, arranges for parent volunteers to staff
the event, coordinates collection money and payment. Also coordinates with
the Community Service Committee to develop a book donation option. A major
PTO fundraiser.

Box Tops for Education
Publicizes Schofield's participation in the BoxTops fundraising program
(collection of boxtops and on-line shopping opportunity), coordinates with
General Mills, collects and submits all coupons.

Cartridge Recycling
Coordinates the recycling program for printer cartridges (through Staples);
oversees collection of and submits used cartridges for reimbursement.

Fifth Grade Fundraising
Multiple committee chairs coordinate fundraising and activities for the 5th
grade, which in the past has included a yearbook, a DVD and a field trip.

Road Race and Family Day
Event is held in early June. Multiple committee chairs coordinate the
planning and execution of the event, including: fundraising/corporate
sponsorship, 5K and 1K race planning (application, registration, T-shirt
design and printing, registration, safety, awards), planning Family Day games
and activities (field games, prizes, staffing), refreshments. Each committee
chairs manages a sub-committee of volunteers as needed to complete the
tasks. A major PTO fundraiser.

Innisbrook Gift Wrap
In the fall, plans and coordinates the sale of gift-wrap by the students and
families. Involves publicizing the event, collating and checking orders,
coordinating volunteers to unload and sort boxes, and accounting for funds
raised. A major PTO fundraiser.

Shopper's Corner
A committee of coordinators who oversee the operation of Shoppers' Corner,
Schofield's weekly consignment store; manages staffing, publicity, tagging,
organizing and maintaining stock. A major PTO fundraiser.

 
School Volunteers/Events
Community Service
Works with Principal and staff on school-wide Community Service programs.
Extent and involvement varies from year to year depending on needs that arise
and programs developed. Past programs include fundraising for victims of
Katrina, hat/mitten collection for Cradles to Crayons, book collection for
schools.

Courtyard
In the summer, coordinates volunteers to clean, weed and plant the courtyard,
flower beds and planters. Coordinates with custodians and parent volunteers
for fall and spring clean-ups.


Lost and Found
Oversees Schofield's Lost and Found area. Returns labeled items to students,
writes notices for school newsletter, periodically organizes and displays
items for retrieval and delivers unclaimed items to a charitable organization.


Room Parent Coordinator
Primary communication liaison between Room Parents and School
Administration/staff/PTO. In early summer, coordinates and assigns parent
volunteers for each classroom. In September, leads an informational session
to review room parent responsibility. Throughout the year, forwards all
communication (primarily e-mail) to all Room Parents for distribution and
provides monthly updates at PTO meetings.

Room Parents
One to three per classroom; facilitate communication between teachers and
parents in each classroom, establish email communication (and phone as
needed), coordinate classroom volunteers, provide input to Principal and PTO
on classroom issues and concerns.

Schofield Connection Editor
Coordinates monthly newsletter: sets and publicizes schedule of monthly
deadline; compiles, edits and verifies articles; designs newsletter layout;
coordinates printing.

School Directory/Handbook
In late August, initiates the project by managing and reviewing data files,
some data input, confirming lisitngs, updating handbook. In early September,
arranges for printing and distribution the handbook directory.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation Lunch
In the spring, plans and hosts a luncheon for Schofield teachers on-site with
the help of parent and student volunteers. Lunch is held on a Wednesday
after dismissal.

School Council
A group of parents and teachers, lead by the Prinicipal, which
reviews and sets school policies and procedures, creates a forum for problem
resolution. A state-mandated council which meets monthly during
after-school hours.

Social Committee
Coordinates school-wide social events including the school picnic, dance and
pizza bingo.

Technology Coordinator
Responsible for maintaining and updating the Schofield PTO website.  Responsible for maintaining the parent email list for the PTO email.  Responsible for checking and distributing emails sent to the PTO email address.

Welcome New Families
During the summer, links host parent volunteers with new families and, just
prior to the start of school, coordinates the New Families Welcome Reception.
 
Wellesley Parade
Coordinates Schofield's participation in the annual parade in May.

 
Town-wide Positions
Committee 21
Primary contact to Committee for Education in the 21st Century. Coordinates
communication and volunteer efforts to town advocacy group.
 
METCO Representative
Serves on a town-wide committee, arranges Wellesley host families for each
Schofield METCO studen, ensures snacks are available for after-school program.

PAC Representative
Serves on a town-wide committee and facilitates communication between PAC
(Parent Advisory Committee) and Schofield, focusing on special needs children.

POPS Representative
Serves on a town-wide committee and facilitates communication between POPS
(Parent of Performing Arts Students) and Schofield, focusing on orchestra and
band.

Publicity
Distributes Schofield updates and announcements to local new agencies.

UNICEF
At Halloween, coordinates UNICEF collection effort at Schofield as part of a
district-wide program.
 
Curriculum Volunteers
Enrichment and Creative Arts
Coordinates enrichment programs at both the grade level and school-wide.
Contacts artists, musicians, scientists etc., coordinates with the Principal,
teachers and, where needed, parent volunteers.

Environmental Aides
Curriculum-based program, coordinated centrally by WPS. Organizes sessions
with teachers (grades K - 4th) and coordinates parent volunteer training and
staffing.

Recess Fitness Club
Plans and coordinates a voluntary, non-competitive walking/running club for Schofield students. Arranges parent volunteers to oversee the program which operates during morning recess 2 times each week throughout the school year.
