Shoppers' Corner!Welcome back to Shoppers' Corner, Schofield's very own gently used clothing store -- and one of the school's largest annual fundraising activities. Our parent volunteer committee has been busy over the summer, gearing up for a fantastic year.
And now we need your help to restock our racks with fall and winter merchandise. We're looking for items that are clean and free of any holes, tears or stains. Maybe your kids have outgrown last year's snow pants or you just don't wear that sweater any more. Your school can benefit!
We'll be open on Wednesday, September 7, from 9am to 11am to accept your donations. Please bring by clothing and accessories from infant through adult, including shoes, purses, ties, belts and even Halloween costumes.
If you'd rather consign your items, we can get you started with a consignor number and pricing tags. We have a very generous consignment policy!
Shoppers Corner will officially open for business on Wednesday, September 14, from 8:30am - 12:15pm. Stop by for hot fashion at low prices!

Back To School ChecklistAs your family starts preparing for the new school year, consider using this time as a great teaching moment with some of these money-saving, natural resource conservation tips: Grab those piles of products you didn’t use up last Spring and then see what is missing from the school supply list. To fill the gaps, use this checklist for your back to school needs and purchase supplies with minimal amount of packaging.
- PAPER - If the list includes anything with paper products, be sure to restock with chlorine free products made from100% post-consumer recycled paper. - PENCILS – look for pencils made from recycled cedar wood, sustainable harvested wood or the refillable kind. - SCISSORS – Can be “vintage” or made from post-consumer recycled plastic. - PENS – Its possible to get pens made from recycled content as well as biodegradable and refillable pens. - BINDERS – Try binders made from canvas, recycled and/or post-consumer waste cardboard or recycled plastic. - BACKPACK - If the old backpack just can’t be repaired, or renewed (think patches, fabric markers, etc.) try backpacks made from recycled materials, organic cotton, or from recycled, non-PVC materials. - LUNCH/SNACK BAGS/CONTAINERS – This year commit to using permanent containers, reusable utensils, water bottles and cloth napkins.
Make Everyday a Litterless Lunch Day!How to pack a ‘Litterless’ lunch:
1. Get your children involved! Encourage your children to help pack their lunch. Pack portions that they will eat to minimize leftovers. 2. Start with a reusable lunch bag, or lunchbox. 3. Use a refillable drink bottle for water or juice. Avoid juice boxes, pouches and plastic water bottles!! 4. Pack all food in reusable containers. Avoid plastic wrap & bags, foil and prepackaged foods. 5. Use reusable cutlery and remind your kids to bring it home. 6. Smile…you have helped the earth!!!
Label, Label, Label!Don't forget to label all your school items. For example: . back packs . lunch boxes/bags . water bottles . hats . coats . sweatshirts . sweaters . sneakers and shoes If the item is labeled, it can easily be returned! When an unmarked item is found, it is then place in the lost&found area which is down the hall, past the office, across from the custodian area. All unclaimed items will be given to a charitable organization at the end of the school year. If you have any questions or need help finding a lost item, please call Ginny Snow at 781-235-2235 or snow_ginny@yahoo.com

Tuesday, September 13, 2011 7:00 – 9:00 pm, Wellesley Middle School Library. The Wellesley PAC is a district-wide, independent organization of parents and caregivers of children in Wellesley working together to enhance the education of students who learn differently.
Basketball ClinicThe Wellesley PAC will host a basketball clinic for students in grade one to six, led by Coach Steve Donahue and the members of the Boston College Eagles, from 10 am to noon Saturday, October 1, at the Wellesley Middle School Gym. All proceeds will benefit the Wellesley Middle School Best Buddies program. There is a $50 per child minimum donation. To register, please visit bestbuddiesbasketballclinic.eventbrite.com. For more information, emailwellesleypac@yahoo.com.
Graffiti AwarenessRecently there has been an increase in graffiti incidents in Wellesley. The graffiti has appeared on school buildings, play ground structures and in conservation land. Graffiti is upsetting to see, as well as expensive and time consuming to remove.
Parents should be watchful for signs that their children may be spray painting graffiti. If they are caught, it is an arrestable offense under Massachusetts law. If convicted, they may be jailed, fined, and responsible for cleanup costs. Also, their driver’s license could be suspended for one year, and, if the child is under the age of 16, one year can be added to the minimum driving age.
Wellesley Sailing ClubThe Wellesley Sailing Club is raising money to assist the winning and talented Wellesley High School Sailing Team and to provide funds for all students who would like to learn and participate in competitive sailing. Funding for public school athletic budgets has been stretched to its limits and Wellesley High School is no different in needing help to maintain its programs. Funds donated are for upgrading and maintainence on an aging fleet of boats.

No IdlingWant to know how to: • Save $$$$$? • Protect your engine? • Reduce air pollution? • Fight climate change? It’s tempting during hot (or cold) months to leave your car running in the car line and parking lot. But, idling is not only illegal, it is harmful to your children. It doesn’t take a second to switch off, save some gas, enjoy the quiet, and switch back on when you’re ready.
