The Wellesley Parent Advisory Council (PAC) presents

Infusing Social Thinking Strategies into

Every Setting of Your Child’s Day

by

Pamela Ely, M.S. CCC-SLP

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 7pm, Wellesley Middle School Library

The presentation will focus on the impact of language processing, executive function, and social thinking inefficiencies on navigating the academic and social world around us.  The program will include tools, techniques, and strategies to improve management of the social world in all settings.

Pamela is a speech-language pathologist with more than 16 years of experience in the public schools and in clinical settings.  For the past eight years, she has facilitated social skills groups dedicated to enhancing the essential skills for social communication. Pamela has a special interest in cognitive-behavioral disorders (Asperger’s, High Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS, Nonverbal Learning Disability, Executive Dysfunction, Anxiety Disorder, etc.) and language based learning disabilities.

What is WPAC? The Wellesley Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a district-wide, state-mandated, independent organization of parents and caregivers of children in Wellesley working together to enhance the education of Wellesley Public School students who have different learning styles, strengths, abilities, and opportunities.

Our all-volunteer, non-profit organization focuses on children in schools in Wellesley.  The Wellesley PAC is comprised of parents who have children who may learn "differently."  We sponsor workshops, informational meetings, discussion groups, legislative lobbying efforts and a variety of other activities to help improve our children's education.  We work with the Wellesley Public School administration to identify areas of needs and act in an advisory role to the School Commitee.

News from the WPS'

Performing Arts Department

Happy New Year! The presents and lights have all been put away and our lives become less busy as we begin to settle into January, the first full month Winter. Usually the quietest month of the year, but not so for Performing Arts. We’ll warm up those northeast chills with our Grade 6 Winter Concert and continuing Elementary concerts. In addition to the student auditions and festivals, January is the start of our Step Up Concerts. Look for the first one, Grades 8-12 Bands, on January 31 followed by the
Choruses and Orchestra in February. For additional information or clarification, please give us a call at 781-446-6250 ext 4120 or check our calendar on the school web site -  ttp://www.wellesley.k12.ma.us click Programs and click on Performing Arts.

– Thank You Ann Rappaport, web master.

Wellesley Education Foundation Updates - December 2011

Happy Holidays from the Wellesley Education Foundation
Dear Wellesley Parent,
As 2011 comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment
to say thank you. What we do would not be possible
without your generous and ongoing support. In early
December, we awarded our first round of grants to
teachers in the Wellesley Public Schools. You can see
the complete list here. As ever, we were impressed by
the creativity and energy that these teachers bring to
our students. We were pleased to be able to award over
$61,000 in grants to keep help keep education in
Wellesley excellent and innovative.
We have two great opportunities to knock a few things
off your holiday gift list and support WEF at the same
time. First, we are in the middle of our Red Apple gift
drive. Click here to buy an Apple to honor your
favorite educator(s). All funds raised from the Red
Apple program are used to make the educator grants
like we made in early December.
Also, for the first and last time, you can help Pave the
Plaza by buying and personalizing a brick to go in the
plaza near the entrance to the new Wellesley High
School. Celebrate a former or current student. Honor a
teacher, coach, or administrator. Remember your
family or high school class. Send a message to future
students. Commemorate a special event. Pay tribute to
your favorite Raider team, all for $125. Click here to
help Pave the Plaza.
Happy Holidays!
