Safety and Security

According to district policy, once school begins all doors except the front door to the school will be locked.  All parents and visitors are asked to sign in at the office.  Messages for students, lunches, homework, etc., should be left at the office to minimize distruption to the classroom.  All items will be delivered promptly by school staff.

Arrival/Dismissal Information

Arrival-Dismissal Procedures

Attendance/Safe Arrival Program
As soon as parents know that a child will be absent or tardy, parents should call 781-446-6230 ext. 699 and leave a detailed message.  Note:  when reporting tardiness, please indicate whether or not your child intends to buy lunch.  Lunch count is completed by 9:30 a.m.  Lunch is brought in from a central location, and there are usually no extras.  If a call is not received when a student is absent, the parent or guardian will be contacted for confirmation.

Change in Dismissal
As part of our ongoing efforts to assure the safety of all of our students, we have created an e-mail account for parents who wish to make changes in dismissal plans via e-mail. All e-mail requests for changes in dismissal plans sent via e-mail should now be sent to the following address:
ssdismiss@gmail.com
In the address line of the e-mail, please put the first name, last initial only, and the classroom. For example, David W 3A.  Our FAX number is 781-263-1527.
 .
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found is located across from the custodian area near KM.  Please label all of your school items.  If you have questions or need help finding a lost item, contact Michelle Brown at 781-239-1663 or michelle_brown@comcast.net.
 .
Lunch
Monthly menus are sent home at the beginning of each month.  They are also available online on this website under "Links" or on the Schofield School website under "About The School."
A debit system is used at the elementary schools.  Each teacher takes a lunch count at the beginning of the school day and documents whether or not a student is purchasing a lunch.  Lunches are $2.65 at the elementary schools.  Lunch consists of a choice of a hot or cold entree, vegetable, fruit or juice and milk.  Students can purchase milk only for 45 cents.  Free or reduced priced lunches are available for families who qualify.  Applications are distributed at the beginning of the year but may be requested at any time.
All students must have money on their accounts in order to use the debit lunch system.  Please be sure you have money on your students' accounts so they will have funds available to them when they choose to buy lunch.  [NOTE - for new families/students, a bill will be sent for the first month and parents are expected to fund the account thereafter.]  Please call the lunch office at anytime to check on the balance of your child's account at 781-446-6250 x4108 or x4107.  Payments should be sent to Wellesley School Lunch Program, 40 Kingsbury Street, Wellesley, MA  02481.  You may also pay by credit card.  Mastercard and Visa are accepted.  There is a minimum payment of $30 for credit cards.

Progress Reports
Progress reports are issued at the end of January and on the last day of school in June.  Individual parent conferences are scheduled in November and March.

Schofield School Council

The Education Reform Act of 1993 requires all Massachusetts public schools to form a school council to act in an advisory capacity to the Principal. School councils must have a balance of parents and staff members, and also include a community representative. The Schofield School Council is comprised of four parents, four staff members, a Community Representative, and the Principal.

The members of the 2009 – 2010 Schofield School Council are as follows:

Christine Archer, Staff

Delissa Prideaux, Parent

Val Buller, PTO Co-President

Patti Quigley, Parent

Nancy Eich, Staff

Heather Sanborn, Staff

Laura Foody, PTO Co-President

Christine Velyvis, Parent

Charlotte Lau, Staff

Officer Brian Spencer, Community Representative

Jo-Ann Patneaude, Parent

David Wilkins, Principal

One of the most important tasks of school councils is the development of an annual school improvement plan. As part of this process, in the spring of each school year, the Schofield School Council distributes a survey to inform the development of the school improvement plan for the following school year. The survey is distributed to staff and parents, and covers the areas that fall under the purview of school councils. These areas include: school culture and climate; safety; curriculum and instruction in terms of meeting the individual needs of each child; parental involvement; and communications between home and school. The responses to the surveys are reviewed by the school council and utilized in the formulation of the school improvement plan for the upcoming school year.

School improvement plans are submitted to the Wellesley School Committee for approval at the beginning of each school year in September. Click here to see the Schofield School Improvement Plan for 2009 – 2010.

Strive for Five
The Strive For Five Club is based on the recommendations from the National Cancer Institute and The Center for Disease Control. Teaching children healthy eating practices early in life facilitates the development of lifelong sensible food choices.  The full information is located here.  The form is here (April 2010).

Information about the Bus for 5th Graders and others
Bus Schedule (2007-08) for Schofield School

For all children in grades K-6 living outside of 2 miles from their school, bus transportation is FREE (this is termed "bus eligible"). However, there are no "bus eligible" streets for free bus transportation for Schofield (i.e., everyone lives within 2 miles). To reserve a slot, you must submit the $100 per child deposit; you will receive a full bill once they determine the overall cost based on participation.
For all children living outside of 2 miles from their school and all 7-12 graders, there is a fee based on the number of people who sign up for the bus. The majority of 6th grade students in our district are bus eligible for WMS (see below). If you are bus eligible, you do not need to submit the form.
If your child(ren) plan to take the bus either to Schofield or WMS, you need to submit a form + deposit for each child (unless a bus eligible 6th grader) to the WPS transportation department. If you miss the deadline, you risk not having a slot available to you in the fall.

Attention: 5th grade parents:
The following streets are "bus eligible" for WMS (the line is somewhere on Washburn and Hillside). If you have questions or to confirm your eligibility, please contact Deane McGoldrick at the Central Office (781 446-6210, ext. 4514). If someone "eligible" has already sent in a $100 deposit, the check will be refunded.
