Safety and Security
According to district policy, once school begins all doors except the front door to the school will be locked. All parents and visitors are asked to sign in at the office. Messages for students, lunches, homework, etc., should be left at the office to minimize disruption to the classroom. All items will be delivered promptly by school staff.
Arrival/Dismissal Information
Arrival-Dismissal Procedures
As the weather is so unpredictable (it could be pouring rain at 7:00 and cleared up by 8:00) we will NOT be sending out emails announcing weather arrival. Instead the sign will be a cone with a flag placed at the end of our driveway and staff sprinklied about with large umbrellas.
Attendance/Safe Arrival Program
As soon as parents know that a child will be absent or tardy, parents should call 781-446-6230 ext. 699 and leave a detailed message. If a call is not received when a student is absent, the parent or guardian will be contacted for confirmation.
Change in Dismissal
It is always best for students to know what the afternoon dismissal plan is when they leave home each day. Changes require clasroom interruptions and take office staff away from other important tasks. We need your help in sticking to the dismissal plan. If you are unsure or need to change the original plan, please contact the office by 12 noon. You can also email ssdismiss@gmail.com.
Early Dismissal
Many times parents need to pick up children to go to medical appoointments. All students leaving early need to be signed out by an adult. Please come to the main office a few minutes before pick up to allow us time to call the classroom for your child. Please don't forget to send a YELLOW change of dismissal note with your child in the morning so that the teacher knows about the early pick up.
Lost and Found
Please take the time to LABEL all outerwear and anything else that could get lost. If it is labeled, we can easily return the items. The Lost and Found area is located across the custodian’s desk. Please check the Lost and Found area for any lost items. If you have any questions or need help finding a lost item, please call Ginny Snow
Lunch
Wellesley Public School are implementing a new Point of Sale system for school lunches. Information about this can be found here:
NutriKids POS Lunch System.
Monthly menus are sent home at the beginning of each month. They are also available online on this website under "Links" or on the Schofield School website under "About The School." Click here for the menu.
Progress Reports
Progress reports are issued at the end of January and on the last day of school in June. Individual parent conferences are scheduled in November and March.
Schofield School Council
The Education Reform Act of 1993 requires all Massachusetts public schools to form a school council to act in an advisory capacity to the Principal. School councils must have a balance of parents and staff members, and also include a community representative. The Schofield School Council is comprised of four parents, four staff members, a Community Representative, and the Principal.
The members of the 2011 – 2012 Schofield School Council are as follows:
Christine Archer, Staff | Lisa Hicks, Parent |
Cecilia Brooks, PTO Co-President | Lisa Keen, Parent |
Nancy Eich, Staff | Heather Sanborn, Staff |
Laura Foody, PTO Co-President | Jennifer Souza, Staff
|
Noelle Oliveira, Staff
| Officer Brian Spencer, Community Representative |
Laurie Kelley, Parent | Gerardo Martinez, Principal |
One of the most important tasks of school councils is the development of an annual school improvement plan. As part of this process, in the spring of each school year, the Schofield School Council distributes a survey to inform the development of the school improvement plan for the following school year. The survey is distributed to staff and parents, and covers the areas that fall under the purview of school councils. These areas include: school culture and climate; safety; curriculum and instruction in terms of meeting the individual needs of each child; parental involvement; and communications between home and school. The responses to the surveys are reviewed by the school council and utilized in the formulation of the school improvement plan for the upcoming school year.

Information about the Bus 2011-12
For all children in grades K-6 living outside of 2 miles from their school, bus transportation is FREE (this is termed "bus eligible"). However, there are no "bus eligible" streets for free bus transportation for Schofield (i.e., everyone lives within 2 miles). To reserve a slot, you must submit the $100 per child deposit; you will receive a full bill once they determine the overall cost based on participation.
For all children living outside of 2 miles from their school and all 7-12 graders, there is a fee based on the number of people who sign up for the bus. The majority of 6th grade students in our district are bus eligible for WMS (see below). If you are bus eligible, you do not need to submit the form.
If your child(ren) plan to take the bus either to Schofield or WMS, you need to submit a form + deposit for each child (unless a bus eligible 6th grader) to the WPS transportation department. If you miss the deadline, you risk not having a slot available to you in the fall.
Attention: 5th grade parents:
The following streets are "bus eligible" for WMS (the line is somewhere on Washburn and Hillside). If you have questions or to confirm your eligibility, please contact Deane McGoldrick at the Central Office (781 446-6210, ext. 4514). If someone "eligible" has already sent in a $100 deposit, the check will be refunded.
